Programs
Program 1 [2020]
Pharmacy of Grace (POG) was approved for 501(c)3 status in late February 2019. During 2019, POG focused on building capacity and preparations for operating a pharmacy. Using our capacity grant from Reach Healthcare Foundation, we developed the following in 2019: (1) Accounting & Tax services established including board management reports - Support KC (2) Logo designed and developed - DG Design (3) Website designed and developed for now and future functions - Blue Gurus (4) POG Email established by UMZUZU (5) Grant writing & prospect identification service established with Support KC (6) Board Governance, Training and Strategic Planning - IBossWell. In 2020, POG expanded relationships with Vibrant Health, University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, UMKC School of Pharmacy, Dispensary of Hope, Amerisource Bergan, Medicine Cabinet, Advent Health, Providence Hospital, University of Kansas Health Systems, Reach Healthcare Foundation, Health Forward Foundation, United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Heise-Meyers, and Ideal Therapeutics. Many other potential relationships were starting and developing. POG's research and analysis of healthcare data supported the need for development of pharmacy services for the uninsured in Wyandotte County while showing how POG would address those gaps. Our message was powerful and potential funders were indicating the willingness to provide the needed funds to begin operations. POG secured a pharmacy site in Bethany Medical Building that was a former pharmacy. This location has two safety net clinics in the same building and is in an area of need with 30-40% uninsured population. POG was on the brink of operations. History will record the next event that impacted POG. Covid-19 roared into society in 2020 shutting down all but essential services. Because POG was in the fundraising phase, everything came to a halt. All potential healthcare funders redirected all potential funds toward the fight against Covid-19. In April-May 2020 POG's board decided to pause all operations to attempt to conserve the limited resources it had acquired. The site lease was reconfigured, all functions were paused, and every attempt was made to minimize expenses. In effect, Covid-19 stopped all progress for fundraising to operationalize POG. In July and August of 2020 POG once again started discussions with potential funders. Due to the uncertain Covid-19 situation, it was determined that potential funding would not be available until sometime in 2021. POG continued discussions with many potential funders setting the stage for a comeback in 2021 with potential operations late 2021 or early 2022.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$5.4KPharmacy of Grace Access Initiative
The mission of Pharmacy of Grace (POG) is to improve access to prescription drugs for uninsured and underinsured individuals and to increase the number of prescription drugs available to vulnerable populations in Kansas. This improved access will help Pharmacy of Grace break the cycle of homelessness, poverty, school absentee days, and unemployment caused by unmanaged medical conditions. In 2022, Pharmacy of Grace held its grand opening of the newly renovated space located in the Mercy & Truth Medical Building. POG hired a Pharmacist in Charge, pharmacy staff, and began operations on July 18th, 2022. By the end of 2022, POG fulfilled 932 prescriptions to 217 patients that were 300% below poverty level as well as 166 prescriptions to 54 patients that were above 300% of the poverty level.
