Clean Energy Transition Initiatives
In 2024, the Clean Energy Transition Institute accomplished the following: Green Electrolytic Hydrogen and Renewable Fuels: Recommendations for Deployment in Washington: Report for Washington Dept. of Commerce released 1/5/24 that assessed opportunities for and barriers to deploying green electrolytic hydrogen and renewable fuels in Washington. Oregon Energy Strategy: Began contract in April 2024 with Oregon Department of Energy to provide technical and economic analysis in support of developing the Oregon Energy Strategy. Net-Zero Northwest Jobs Analysis: Released final element of our Net-Zero Northwest state-specific workforce analyses that examine how achieving net-zero emissions would impact employment in each of the four Northwest states in the electricity, fuels, buildings, and transportation sectors. Washington State Refinery Economic Impact Study: Provided research support for Western Washington Universitys (WWU) Center for Economic and Business and Research for a Washington Refinery Study for the Dept. of Commerce that examined the economic impacts of oil refining in Washington state and how they might shift as the state worked to achieve mandated decarbonization targets. Residential Energy Efficiency Workforce Gap Analysis: Contributed research for a residential energy workforce gap analysis for a contract with the Washington State Department of Commerce that concluded in August of 2024. Rural Clean Energy Economics and Community Engagement Study and Report: Starting in December 2023, CETI worked with Ross Strategic and Industrial Economics, Inc. on a report for the Washington Dept. of Commerce designed to increase understanding among rural communities, government agencies, and policymakers about the potential opportunities and impacts of renewable energy development in rural communities throughout Washington. Delivered the Legislature in December 2024. Assessing the Benefits of Rural Community Photovoltaic Solar Projects: Starting in the summer of 2024, CETI began working with the University of Washingtons Population Health Initiative to examine the potential benefits of community-scale solar development for rural communities. Northwest Clean Energy Atlas: In 2024, the CETI added several new visualizations to the Atlas(new jobs section; energy jobs by county and subsector; and worked to update existing visualizations with more up-to-date datasets. We had nearly 5,000 new users to the Atlas this year, and the total number of sessions and page views both more than doubled, indicating that this resource remains a valuable resource for the clean energy community. Western Transmission Expansion Coalition (WestTEC): Serve on the Regional Engagement Committee (REC) as one of four public interest organizations for this west-wide effort to develop an actionable transmission study that will support the needs of the future grid. CETI serves on Washington Energy Pathways: CETI and Evolved Energy Research began working with the Washington Dept. of Commerce in April 2024 to develop economy-wide energy pathways scenarios that would achieve the states emission reduction goals and form the basis for Washingtons Comprehensive Climate Action Planning to meet Environmental Protection Agency Climate Pollution Reduction Grant requirements.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$842.4K
