Middle School Academy
Middle School Academy begins the summer after 5th grade and totals four summers and three school-years of mandatory, year-round coursework in Math, Social Studies, English Seminar, Writing, Coding, and Lab-based Sciences. Starting in the spring of 7th grade, students take a High School Placement and SSAT preparation class, which continues until the spring of their 8th grade year. During the academic year, classes run on Zoom, for access and equity reasons, two times per week for a total of eight hours of instruction. Students engage in rigorous, student-centered, discussion-based learning in a small group setting where they are able to receive additional individualized support from their teachers and the ATA team in Office Hours. ATA provides each student with a free Chromebook to ensure that they are able to both access their classes and build computer literacy and research skills. Additionally, ATA will support families in getting internet access, if they do not currently have access. During the summer ATA’s Middle School Academy runs in person for 6 weeks from 8 am-4 pm, 5 days per week.
