Advocacy for Individuals with Disabilities
Advocacy: To advocate for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in schools, courts and any community setting. Advocates in schools work to support families and educators meet the unique needs of individual students. Advocates identify needs and work as a team to create cooperative plans for successful educational outcomes. A new program outside the schools works to empower families primarily parents to become their students' first and strongest advocate. Families are educated on special education laws and how services are delivered in schools. Advocates work with all people to protect individual civil rights. Guardianship: to provide court ordered guardianship services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The agency's guardianship program provided informed decision making for 70 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The guardianship agents advocate for appropriate supports to ensure people live their best lives in community settings. Guardian agents support and advocate to try new experiences and expand their worlds through travel and leisure activities. Guardian agents advocate for quality medical. They ensure people are living in safe and healthy environments. Public Relations/Social Events: To provide life enriching assistance and opportunity to Adults and Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community. The agency puts on several large dances each year. The agency added a community picnic in a regional park that was well attended. The agency has monthly evening social events for adults to attend that are both fun and educational. The agency has partnered with a group to provide children and younger adults social opportunities such as bike rides, bowling and movie outings. The agency has multiple social media outlets to get social events promoted to the community. LINE 4D, PROGRAM SERVICE ------------------------ Pooled Income Trust-The ARC, LLC: Provide Trustee services to those clients of the ARC who are participants in the ARC of the Pikes Peak Region Pooled Income Trust or who are beneficiaries of special needs trusts in which The ARC may be serving as guardian.
