Program 1 [2018]
In 2018, FSD graduated 22 client-dog teams from the following programs: Operation Freedom (4 teams) : FSD matches veterans and active duty military with highly specialized service dogs that help them find a new level of independence and confidence. Operation Full Circle (4 teams): In this unique program, veterans with PTS and traumatic brain injury work alongside FSD trainers for four months to train the dogs provided to them by FSD. Traditional placement (7 teams): FSD matches individuals with disabilities, including spinal-cord injuries, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and others, with dogs that are custom trained to meet their unique needs. Discos Dogs (4 teams): This program provides service dogs and skilled-companion dogs for individuals age 5 and up with autism-related differences or developmental disabilities. Therapy dogs (3 teams): This program matches professional therapists with professional therapy dogs that work alongside them in group or individual sessions with their clients.FSD provided shelter, food, veterinary care, enrichment, foster care, and professional training to 176 dogs in 2018. Public education and outreach: FSD provides a variety of educational programs, including working with youths with developmental disabilities or neurodiversity in schools, community programs, and other settings, and educating corporate and community-based groups on the FSD mission and impact. In 2018, volunteers contributed 3,724 hours of service helping with educational programs, events and administrative tasks. More than 200 youths in 19 schools and treatment programs were reached through Pawsitive Connection, a therapeutic program in which students and young adults with developmental disabilities or neurodiversity work with FSD dogs in training to explore topics such as empathy, social interactions and more. DOG OPERATIONS:IN 2023, FSD PLACED 32 SERVICE DOGS, 2 PROFESSIONAL THERAPY DOGS, AND 5 SKILLED COMPANION DOGS WHERE THEY CAN HAVE THE MOST IMPACT FOR INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES. 113 PURPOSE-BRED PUPPIES WERE BORN AT FSD AND ENTERED THE SERVICE DOG TRAINING PROGRAM. CAREFULLY MANAGING THE GENETICS, TEMPERAMENT, HEALTH CARE, TRAINING AND SOCIALIZATION OF THE SERVICE DOG CANDIDATES HAS ENABLED FSD TO GRADUATE MORE SUCCESSFUL SERVICE DOGS IN A TIMELIER MANNER.
