Application format and required materials
APPLICATIONS ARE POSTED ON THE HAWAII REALTORS WEBSITE. AN INITIAL REVIEW IS PERFORMED TO ENSURE APPLICANTS MEET THE BASIC ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA - A RESIDENTIAL HOMEOWNER OR RENTER WHOSE PRIMARY RESIDENCE WAS DAMAGED OR DESTROYED. APPLICATIONS MUST CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING BEFORE IT CAN BE REVIEWED: A. THE GENERAL INFORMATION AND PROPERTY INFORMATION/DESCRIPTION OF LOSS SECTIONS OF THE APPLICATION ARE FILLED OUT. B. VALID PHOTO ID IS ATTACHED C. COPY OF A NEW RENTAL AGREEMENT (DATED AFTER 8/8/23) OR MEMO CONFIRMING LIVING ARRANGEMENT, MORTGAGE STATEMENT, OR HOTEL RECEIPTS ARE PROVIDED D. PHOTOS OF DAMAGES ARE PROVIDED, IF AVAILABLE E. IN ADDITION, STAFF PERFORMS A SEARCH OF THE APPLICANT'S PRIMARY PROPERTY ADDRESS USING THE MAUI COUNTY TAX ASSESSMENT WEBSITE TO VERIFY IF THE PROPERTY WAS DESTROYED OR WAS LOCATED IN BURN ZONE. A COPY OF THE TAX RECORD IS ADDED TO THE APPLICANT'S FILE

THE GRANT AMOUNT IS DETERMINED BY THE FOLLOWING: A. REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNT IS EQUAL TO ONE MONTH'S MORTGAGE OR RENT PAYMENT, OR HOTEL REIMBURSEMENT, UP TO A MAXIMUM OF $3,000 I. EX: IF MONTHLY MORTGAGE IS $2,800, APPLICANT WILL RECEIVE $2,800. IF MONTHLY MORTGAGE IS $3,100, THE APPLICANT WILL RECEIVE $3,000. B. APPLICANTS WHO OWN THEIR PRIMARY RESIDENCE BUT DO NOT HAVE A MORTGAGE ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE $1,500 AND WILL NEED TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION OF MORTGAGE PAYOFF.
