IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE 2020 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT, THE ALASKANS FOR BETTER ELECTIONS CITIZENS' INITIATIVE HAD TO PROCURE THE SIGNATURES OF 28,501 REGISTERED ALASKAN VOTERS FROM AT LEAST 30 OF THE STATE'S 40 HOUSE DISTRICTS. Alaskans for Better Elections, Inc. (ABEI) defended voter reforms approved by the voters in 2020: nonpartisan open primaries and ranked choice voting general elections. Despite a successful election in 2022 repeal efforts were immediately launched both in the Alaska State legislature and by a proposed Citizens' initiative. ABEI educated leg- islators and the public on the successes of the reform and educated voters on how to participate in the legislative process to keep the reforms in place. ABEI staff traveled to the Capitol to provide testimony to legislators and policy makers.
