Books By Us Literacy and Empowerment Program
Books By Us is a project-based literacy and empowerment program designed to support youth in developing their writing storytelling and creative expression skills while building confidence and entrepreneurial awareness. During the reporting period 13 students participated in the program and successfully authored and published 7 original childrens books. The program fostered core literacy skills including reading comprehension writing fluency and grammar while also encouraging creativity and ownership through the book development and publishing process. Students learned about editing illustration marketing and public speaking as they presented their work to live audiences of over 200 children in schools and community events. This hands-on videography program provided middle school high school students and young adults with professional training in video production for social media advertising and commercial use. Led by a professional videographer the program equipped 9 students with skills in filming editing sound and visual storytelling. Participants received personalized technical mentoring and produced high-quality video content some of which was used by community organizations serving audiences of over 50 individuals. Students participated in structured orchestra and piano lessons designed to enhance musical skills discipline and self-expression. Through this program participants gained foundational knowledge in music theory instrumental performance and ensemble collaboration. The experience supported cognitive development creativity and confidence while also exposing students to the discipline and joy of classical and contemporary music training.
