Food System Leadership and Education
Ideagarden designs & delivers leadership retreats & entrepreneurial education programs focused on transforming the food system. In 2022, IGI supported the cultivation of new projects such as How We Grew This, a new podcast from Ideagarden Institute exploring real-world examples of changemakers and their organizations, Earth in Color, a Black-led creative studio supporting connection, discovery, and well-being through storytelling, sharing recipes, and curated experiences, and Animals Undiscovered, an introduction to animal species coexistence for elementary school programming in hopes of encouraging ecological systems thinking and plant-based eating to young minds. Ideagarden continues to house The Greg Steltenpohl Pragmatic Visionary Award, supporting food systems changemakers who are engaging with social entrepreneurship for positive impact in their communities, Edible Education 101, a hybrid public lecture series and for-credit class at UC Berkeley, and Plant Futures Initiative, a multidisciplinary approach to plant-based food research and production within a national campus network. Plant Futures has made significant progress in our mission to accelerate the transition to a plant-centric food system this year. We successfully concluded our Fall and Spring Challenge Lab partnerships at Berkeley and Harvard, collaborating with professional partners including Beyond Meat, Sun World, Daily Harvest, and Daiya. Students showcased incredible innovation and dedication in their final projects. Our impactful events included our inaugural live Symposium, attracting 280 attendees with 400+ joining virtually. Our virtual job fair in collaboration with Terra.do had 242 attendees from 48 countries. We also organized a Career Exploration & Impact Mapping Workshop, Earth Week Series, Career and Leadership Series, and more. Our chapter network expanded to over 30 campuses globally. Notably, 59% of our student leaders identify as Female/Non-Binary and 52% identify as BIPOC. Weve also begun to expand into Mexico, furthering our mission. Additionally, we launched our new Membership Community, uniting students, professionals, and academics from diverse backgrounds. Our work gained recognition from major media outlets such as VegWorld Magazine, VegOut, GreenBiz, and more. These achievements, despite challenges in the economy that are affecting funding from challenge lab partners and existing foundation funding partners, demonstrate our commitment to fostering a global community dedicated to a plant-centric future for the planet, people, and animals.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$473.2K
