Rescue, Adoption, Foster, and Pet Feeding Programs: SPCA of Northern Nevada (SPCA-NN) saves and improves the lives of pets and people in northern Nevada (and beyond)! SPCA-NN believes in an open, conversation-based adoption process that carefully matches the lifestyle and expectations of adopters with the personalities and needs of our homeless pets. This approach gives adopted pets and their adopters the greatest chance for a successful, loving life together! We rescue approximately 60% of our homeless pets from rural northern Nevada and rural northern California from our rural partner shelters that are under-resourced and over capacity. We pick them up in our transport van, take them into our adoption center where they receive everything they need to become adoption-ready! (Continued on Sch O) This includes medical intake exams, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, food (including specialty and prescription diets), shelter, behavior assessments, enrichment, and loving care! They'll also receive necessary surgeries and dental vouchers. We successfully treated and adopted 91 kittens and cats through our impactful Ringworm Academy program, which saves cats and kittens at high risk for euthanasia in other facilities. We met many challenges and placed 1,462 homeless pets in loving homes! We had a very low return rate of only 5%, which means we're making successful, loving matches. Additionally, our Live Release Rate was a consistently high 98%. We also spayed/neutered 1,033 SPCA-NN pets before adopting them into our communities. We also placed 493 pets into foster care to become adoption-ready. We also support our adopters and all pet parents with our Pet Behavior Help Line to help keep pets in their loving homes instead of being surrendered to shelters. We receive approximately 400 calls per month! Our support also includes discounted or free training and professional animal behavior consultations based on individual need and circumstances. We provided dog and cat food, treats, cat litter, leashes, collars, beds, and more to over 40 small rescue organizations through our Shelter Feeding Program!GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.4MProgram 2 [2020]
Affordable Community Veterinarian Care Programs:In 2020, SPCA-NN fixed 1,383 owned pets through our community SNYPs (Spay/Neuter Your PetS) program! Our affordable spay/neuter clinic for dogs and cats is available to northern Nevada residents with a total household income of $60,000 or less. There are many reasons why you should spay/neuter your pet: a) To help mitigate the high national rate of companion animal euthanasia; b) To prevent unwanted pregnancies and litters; c) To help your pet live a longer, healthier life.(Continued on Schedule O)We also launched Todd's Medical Fund to assist pet parents in paying their veterinarian medical bills so pets get the vital care they need. This pilot program was so successful that it is now a permanent SPCA-NN program! SPCA-NN vaccinated 8,431 owned pets through our Affordable Vaccination Program!SPCA-NN provided 16 dental vouchers to adopters where SPCA-NN pays for the dental post-adoption. This way the pets can recover in their new homes instead of waiting at the adoption center for dentals before being available for adoption. Additionally, SPCA-NN conducted 30 specialty surgeries in house, including some dentals and tooth extractions.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$259KProgram 3 [2020]
Thrift Store:The SPCA-NN thrift store receives gently used, and new, donated clothing, pet-related items, and household goods that are re-sold to the public. All thrift store proceeds support our adoption center programs (see Program A above), and our Affordable Community Veterinary Care programs (see Program B above). Due to the extreme amount of clothing donations, we also partner with social services organizations to provide clothing to their clients to help support these vulnerable human populations dress for job interviews and transition back into society after incarceration, homelessness, etc.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$485.1K
