Legislative Advocacy for Civil Justice
1.Throughout the tax year, CALA operated in the states of California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas, and West Virginia. CALAs Executive Directors for the operations in each of these states engaged in legislative advocacy to support or oppose key bills and policy outcomes that would have an impact on the civil justice landscape in respective state. This engagement varied from digital petitions, letters to lawmakers, and testimony at legislative hearings. 2.In those same states, CALA also hosted various events with small business owners and lawmakers throughout the state to encourage continued conversations about the impact of lawsuit abuse in local communities. CALA also hosted press conferences in some of its target states to highlight the impact of lawsuit abuse on the local economy. 3.A large focus of the CALA program was educating the public on the localized impact of lawsuit abuse via reports, such as the Economic Impact Report that CALA releases annually.
