Scaling Pluralism Through Hollywood
Popular TV and film offer a potentially monumental, scalable lever of change to advance greater trust, cohesion, and pluralistic norms at scale. Building on the success and momentum of Resetting the Table’s track record and traction in the entertainment industry, RTT is positioned to catalyze influential creatives to reach millions of Americans with stories of shared humanity and democracy. RTT offers training and consultation to executives at major studios as well as showrunners and writers of films and TV shows whose content reaches 10M+ Americans (Handmaid’s Tale, Frasier, The Americans, The Lego Movie, The Good Doctor, Star Wars, Grey’s Anatomy, etc.). In the coming two years, RTT proposes to leverage our world-class toolkit to deliver five mutually reinforcing streams of activity building fertile ground for disseminating bridge-building mindsets and skill-sets in the industry. With expanded funding, we plan to leverage this momentum and opportunity, activating Hollywood industry leaders to shift cultural narratives towards rehumanization, healthy conflict, and shared society.GeographiesUnited States;Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA, USADatesJul 1, 2024 – Jun 30, 2026SourceUser-generatedArts and culture,DemocracyArtists and performers300$1.7MMultiplying Impact in Higher Education
The Israel-Gaza War has intensified existing fault-lines and caused many campuses to boil over with toxic conflict, including an alarming surge in antisemitism, anti-Muslim bias, and hate. Resetting the Table is a leading resource for de-escalating conflict and building trust across strongly opposing viewpoints. RTT provides uniquely rigorous training enabling higher ed administrators to operationalize high-level institutional commitments to combat hate and polarization and forge relationships and collaboration across strong differences on their campuses. Over the next two years, Resetting the Table will scale our “Train-the-Trainers" program to equip administrators on 18 campuses to teach over 10,000 students, as well as partner with Hillel International to train Jewish campus professionals and with UCLA to build a campus-wide team of practitioners as part of a new Dialogue Across Difference Initiative. RTT’s training will produce expert practitioners embedded in campus life and prepared to transform escalation and conflict, open vibrant communication and learning, and disseminate the mindsets and skill-sets needed to realize a pluralistic culture in institutions of higher learning across the country. With expanded support, we will multiply our offerings to campus administrators and professionals, helping ensure universities become training grounds for the habits, norms, and skills of democratic citizenship and a shared society and future.GeographiesUnited StatesDatesJul 1, 2024 – Jun 30, 2026SourceUser-generatedGraduate and professional education,Higher educationAcademics10K$950KHarnessing the Potential of Faith Leaders
Resetting the Table scales our work by training norm-shapers— individuals with social capital who influence how others think and behave. Studies show that in many populations, faith leaders are among the most trusted leaders in America today. Religious institutions are also often rare meeting grounds for Americans with disparate backgrounds and views. RTT equips America’s faith leaders and communities to become exemplars of the productive deliberation across divides that our democracy needs. We partner with hundreds of national and regional faith-based convening institutions—from conservative evangelical to historic Black church to Jewish and Muslim—to disseminate and teach bridge-building mindsets, skills, and tools. A ten-year longitudinal study with an external research firm shows that RTT’s training for faith leaders drives lasting change, with sustained impact on both leaders and the institutions and sectors they serve. What makes us distinct: RTT has a track record of engaging groups that do not often appear around other tables, and we uniquely reach political conservatives and other skeptical groups that must be engaged for the goals of bridge-building and democracy-building movements to be achieved. RTT’s rigorous methodology weaves together expertise in mediation, facilitation, trauma therapy, and social research. Seasoned mediators and conflict resolution experts describe RTT’s training as “best-in-class” and the most effective they have experienced in decades of work. As the most extensive part of our work, this program has multiple prongs of activity – some working deeply within particular faith communities (evangelical, Jewish, etc.) and some bringing communities together across lines of difference.GeographiesUnited StatesDatesJul 1, 2024 – Jun 30, 2026SourceUser-generatedAdult education,Diversity and intergroup relations,Democracy,Leadership development,ReligionAdults,Adolescents,Catholics,Evangelicals,Protestants,Interfaith groups,Jewish people,Muslims,Secular groups,Activists12K$3.5M
