SEIU LOCAL 49 PROVIDES MEMBER REPRESENTATION,ORGANIZATION, AND NEGOTIATION OF UNION MEMBER SALARIES AND BENEFITS FOR APPROXIMATELY 14,600 MEMBERS. WE STRIVE TO: 1. DEVELOP A DIVERSE, HIGHLY TRAINED AND MOTIVATED LEADERSHIP WITH HIGH STANDARDS AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE UNION. 2. CONTINUE TO BUILD A STRONG AND SOLID UNION BY DEVELOPING A MEMBERSHIP VOICE IN OUR WORKPLACE AND IN OUR COMMUNITIES. 3. CREATE MEANINGFUL PATHS FOR MEMBER INVOLVEMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN A STRONG DEMOCRATIC LOCAL WHERE, IN SOLIDARITY, WE STAND FIRMLY AGAINST DISCRIMINATION AND EXPLOITATION, BUILDING TRUST AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE LOCAL. 4. CONTINUE TO ORGANIZE UNORGANIZED WORKERS IN OUR INDUSTRIES (PROPERTY SERVICE AND HEALTH CARE) IN ORDER TO EXTEND UNION STANDARDS AND GAIN LEVERAGE AND CONTROL OVER OUR INDUSTRIES. 5. ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN POLITICS TO STRENGTHEN OUR COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENTS, TO ORGANIZE NEW WORKERS AND TO ADDRESS WORKPLACE ISSUES THROUGH ELECTORAL, LEGISLATIVE AND GRASSROOTS POLITICAL ACTIVITY. 6.
