FOREST WATCH PROGRAM: Bark works with our volunteers and the general public to inform policymaking at the US Forest Service. In 2020 we worked to engage the public on issues of wildfire ecology and management and destructive, industrial forest practices such as roadbuilding and commercial logging. Staff and volunteers gather site-specific information by groundtruthing and use the collected data to provide input on proposed Forest Service projects through the National Environmental Policy Act. Bark volunteers contributed approximately 584 hours surveying proposed timber sales and monitoring the impacts of roads and logging in Mt. Hood National Forest. Areas of work in 2020 also included beaver habitat surveys and water depth data collection used to perform wetland mapping for two watersheds of the Clackamas District. A portion of this work was funded with $20,468 through a contract with the U.S. Forest Service.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$202.8KProgram 3 [2020]
