College Readiness Program
Eastside students participate in a three-year college readiness series that guides them through the college application process while also preparing them for success in college. In “Composition and Argumentation,” sophomores develop critical reading skills, strengthen writing skills, and work with career coaches to craft their first resumes. “Writing for College” helps juniors develop as writers and begin their college search. Students assess their eligibility for various colleges and determine what they want and need in a college. They also meet with career coaches to identify their skills, interests, and values and begin thinking more seriously about potential career paths. In “Senior College Prep,” students work on their college and financial aid applications. They also participate in a financial literacy program, research majors and career paths, practice their written communication and self-advocacy skills, and meet with Eastside alumni to learn about their experiences.GeographiesEast Palo Alto, CA, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedCollege preparation,Secondary educationAdolescents,Pacific Islanders,People of African descent,People of Latin American descent,Economically disadvantaged people200–Summer Session
Summer Bridge Program: During this six-week program for incoming freshmen, students take literature, math, and high school prep courses. College Boot Camp: This two-week program gives rising seniors time to research colleges, learn about the application and financial aid processes, and begin crafting personal statements. On-Campus Classes: Along with a variety of Eastside electives, we offer college-level classes through our partnership with Foothill College. These classes allow students to graduate with college credits and the confidence that they can master challenging material. Off-Campus Programs: We help students apply to and secure funding for off-campus programs. Students participate in a variety of activities including internships, academic programs at universities, volunteer or paid positions at local nonprofits, international travel through organizations such as Experiment in International Living, and outdoor adventures with groups like NOLS.GeographiesEast Palo Alto, CA, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedSecondary educationAdolescents,Pacific Islanders,People of African descent,People of Latin American descent,Economically disadvantaged people270–Residential Program
Our residential program is a valuable resource for students who need a more supportive living environment. It has also allowed us to accept low-income first-generation college bound students from other Bay Area communities with challenges similar to East Palo Alto. In recent years as housing affordability in the Bay Area has been an ever-growing challenge for our families, and the rising cost of living has caused many to move away to find more affordable places to live, our residential program has allowed those students to continue attending Eastside and pursuing their dream of becoming the first in their families to go to college. All students are eligible to live in our dorms.GeographiesEast Palo Alto, CA, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedSecondary education,College preparation,TutoringAdolescents,Pacific Islanders,People of African descent,People of Latin American descent,Economically disadvantaged people70–
