Multicultural Arts Programming
2022 Supplemental InfoIn 2022, RCW resumed its in-person programming and produced or hosted approximately 42 events, including concerts, classes, and outdoor performances. RCW is the only organization providing ongoing multicultural arts programming in the City of Alameda and served approximately 10,600 people. Rhythmix presented world music and dance, family programming and free community events including two Art Walks, two PAL in the Parks concerts, and 11 public performances of Island City Waterways: Uprooted. The K Gallery at RCW presented five exhibits and a free weekly Art Jam, where local artists come together to create in a shared studio environment. Approximately 90% of RCW programming was provided at no cost to the community in 2022.RCWs signature youth arts education program, Performance Art and Learning (PAL), returned live in the fall and expanded significantly, serving over 6,000 students with world music and dance assemblies to participating Alameda County elementary schools. RCWs programmatic goals are to foster greater participation and inclusion in the arts by spotlighting artists of diverse heritages and increasing cultural understanding among audiences of varied backgrounds.Rhythmix hosted many other events including Brown vs Board of Education (theatrical play), a Diwali Festival, Mardi Gras Party and a Tropical Latin Dance Party. RCW also hosted its annual Pour Your heart Out Benefit for the Arts sponsored by local businesses.Education: RCWs facility hosts a number of local teaching artists including the following ongoing classes: Cuban Salsa, Puerto Rican Bomba, Martial Arts and Zumba fitness. RCWs programmatic goals are to foster greater participation and inclusion in the arts by spotlighting artists of diverse heritages and increasing cultural understanding among audiences of varied backgrounds. In 2025, Rhythmix presented 40 events including concerts, classes, and outdoor performances at Rhythmix and at locations throughout Alameda. Nearly 300 performing artists were showcased, celebrating over 30 global cultures. RCW is the only organization providing ongoing multicultural arts programming in the City of Alameda and it served approximately 10,000 individuals outside of its arts education programming. Rhythmix presented world music and dance, family programming and free community events including an Asian and Pacific Islander Arts & Culture Festival and 4 climate awareness public art events called Rising Seas. RCWs signature youth arts education program, Performance Art and Learning (PAL), served over 4,000 students with world music and dance assemblies. Assemblies were held at Rhythmix and at Alameda County elementary schools in Hayward and Castro Valley. Programming included 16 live assemblies at RCWs theater, and 4 offsite PAL assemblies. Rhythmix hosted 10 performances in its theater. Performances included: blues, flamenco, Latin jazz, a Bubble show, and Diwali festival, among others. The K Gallery at RCW presented 6 exhibits featuring work from professional and elementary school student artists. In addition, it hosted a free weekly Art Jam, where local artists come together to create in a shared studio environment. RCWs facility hosted a number of local teaching artists including the following ongoing classes: Cuban Salsa, Puerto Rican Bomba, Martial Arts, yoga and Zumba fitness.
