THE TONY AWARD-WINNING OLD GLOBE THEATRE IS ONE OF THE LARGEST THEATRES IN THE COUNTRY AND SAN DIEGO'S FLAGSHIP PERFORMING ARTS INSTITUTION SINCE 1937, WHEN A POPULAR VENUE FOR SHAKESPEARE'S WORK AT THE 1935-36 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION IN BALBOA PARK WAS ESTABLISHED AS A PERMANENT OPERATION. IN A NORMAL SEASON, THE OLD GLOBE PRODUCES A YEAR-ROUND SEASON OF 14 OR MORE PLAYS AND MUSICALS, INCLUDING WORLD PREMIERES, MODERN CLASSICS, NEW MUSICALS, BROADWAY-BOUND PRODUCTIONS AND A HIGHLY-REGARDED SUMMER SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL.
