United Way Community Support Programs
211 Services: 211 services significantly increased from the previous fiscal year and 211 calls now average approximately 55 calls a month. The United Way of Eddy County added a new program to assist with electrical relief and a second program to assist families with lodging during an emergency. The UWEC paid 83 electric bills during the 2024 calendar year. The United Way of Eddy County also continued to assist with water and gas bills. Food Distribution: The United Way of Eddy County continued to organize a monthly food distribution effort. The effort fed 150 families per month at the start of the fiscal year, but was feeding 225 families by the end of the fiscal year. Transit Service: The United Way of Eddy County reimburses Carlsbad Municipal Transit for certain rides to veterans. Special Events: Through its Stuff the Bus program, the United Way of Eddy County raised approximately $25,000 in school supplies for local children. The organizations Day of Caring saw 200 volunteers assist with repairs at ten agencies. The organization provided direct funding for a summer food program in Artesia, N.M. Scholarships: The United Way of Eddy County provided two scholarships to Eddy County residents during this fiscal year, totaling $4,000. Participating Agencies Distributions providing financial support to participating local 501(c)(3) organizations in Eddy County qualifying for funding under United Way's participating agency funding guidelines, requirements and obligations. During the fiscal year, the following activities were funded. Affirming Hearts Foundry Home provides residence for teenagers Artesia Literacy Council Artesias Haven of Hope Carlsbad Transitional Housing and Homeless Shelter- Carlsbad Literacy Program Calvary Assembly of God (food distribution program) Carlsbad Community Anti-drug / Gang Coalition Carlsbad and Artesia LifeHouse Carlsbad Community of Hope Center Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter Carlsbad Boys & Girls Club Eddy County CASA provides court appointed special advocates Grammys House is a domestic violence shelter Oasis Womens Center SENM Community Action Corporation- program providing meals to seniors.
