Effective grantmaking starts with understanding your ecosystem. The New York Philanthropy Hub gives our members a comprehensive, data-driven view of the nonprofit and philanthropic landscape across the entire state — so funders can make smarter decisions, identify gaps, and collaborate with greater impact. We're thrilled to partner with Impala to make this available to funders throughout New York.

Where does the Hub data come from?
Impala transforms millions of public fillings (990 forms) into insightful profiles for every nonprofit and foundation in the U.S. Then, Impala's Ecosystems engine aggregates many of the information in these profiles into customized sub-sectors ("ecosystems") that describe philanthropy in New York. Ecosystems can be based on geography, cause areas, specific organizational characteristics, or any combination of these attributes.
Nonprofits and funders can upload any missing or recent 990s to enhance the dataset
How often is the data updated?
Data is constantly being updated on a regular basis, as it becomes available.
When organizations update their profiles (e.g. programs, people, impact), this data is available immediately. Any 990s uploaded by nonprofits or funders are processed in several days. And as the IRS makes data available at scale for a particular fiscal year (e.g. 2023), we update our systems accordingly. That said, by encouraging organizations to upload their recent 990s, together we can bypass the longstanding issue of the IRS' data lag. As a result of our dynamic approach to gathering data, the New York Philanthropy Hub is the most complete and up-to-date source of information on the New York philanthropic field and the organizations in it.
What’s included?
Full access to the New York Hub, covering every nonprofit based in and foundation that is funding in New York. In addition, this partnership covers the premium version of Impala's Philanthropy Database, allowing full access to more than 3M profiles of every nonprofit and foundation in the US, including 25M+ grants given and received.
Who has access to this offering?
This offer applies to all:
All active NY Funders Alliance members and their grantees have access to the Hub
How is my organization's data used?
Most of Impala's data is sourced directly from Form 990s that have been released by the IRS.
The data is supplemented by additional 990 uploads by users, self-reported profile information, and some third party sources. While we make insightful public and user-generated data available on the platform, your organization and individual data privacy and security are top priorities to us. To learn more, see our Help Center, Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy.
How does impala protect my privacy?
We believe transparency shouldn’t come at the cost of privacy.
Impala uses the latest data privacy and security tools. But more importantly, we put control in your hands by giving you the power to edit any information you add to your profile, at any time.
I’m busy doing good in the world - will this take a lot of time?
Absolutely not.
We’re extremely mindful that nonprofits have far more important work to do. That’s why we’ve pre-built your profile on Impala using data that's already publicly available, and signing-up and claiming this profile takes less than 2 minutes. Once you have completed to short onboarding steps, you'll have free access to Impala!
