OUR Journey
From vision to action
2021
Founded to empower philanthropy
Impala was founded after Harvard public policy graduate student Shahar Brukner started a nonprofit and ran into a common problem: the data he needed simply wasn’t accessible.
“What gets me up every morning is the knowledge that everything we do drives real change and results for nonprofits and foundations.”
Shahar Brukner
President & Co-Founder
2022
Developed a unique market-wide lens to philanthropy
Impala partnered with leaders of funder networks to build a powerful engine that enables deep, sector-by-sector analysis of the entire philanthropic landscape.
“For the first time, we could look at philanthropy the way markets are analyzed—sector by sector, not just individual orgs, with real structure, and real insight.”
Jeff Poulos
CEO, Philanthropy Massachusetts (Former)
2023
Built the platform
Impala secured funding and built a world-class global engineering team to develop a smart, flexible data platform enabling deep analysis across the philanthropic sector.
“We’re building world-class data platform for philanthropy to support nonprofits and foundations, and we get to do it with an incredibly talented engineering team."
Tom Huberman
CTO & Co-Founder
2024
Rapid early adoption
Impala launched its Philanthropy Database and its first application, Ecosystem Research, quickly onboarding more than 3,000 nonprofits and 500 foundations in its first year.
“Seeing thousands of nonprofits and hundreds of foundations adopt the platform in our first year validated the product and confirmed we were solving a real, urgent need.”
Sierra Szkrybalo
Partnerships & Customer Success Manager
2025
Launched Philanthropy Hubs
Impala won top awards and significantly expanded usage with the launch of its Philanthropy Hubs, beginning with US Democracy and rapidly growing across states such as New York, New Jersey, and Minnesota.
“Launching the first Philanthropy Hub with the Democracy Funders Network, and then seeing them expand across the country, showed how strong the demand was for a shared philanthropic infrastructure.”
Marisa Sires
Chief Product Officer
2026
Launch of Impala Suite 2.0
The future of Impala is just beginning. With Guy Miasnik joining as CEO, the company is entering a new chapter, combining entrepreneurial innovation with global impact as we launch our next-gen platform.
“Impala’s next chapter is about scale, impact, and execution, and the platform we’re launching reflects that ambition.”
