Introducing the U.S. Democracy Hub: A Groundbreaking Resource for the Democracy Sector

Hi Everyone teem-img

Today I’m excited to share something truly transformational for the democracy nonprofit sector: the official launch of the U.S. Democracy Hub. This first-of-its-kind data platform was built in partnership with the Democracy Funders Network (DFN), a community of funders dedicated to strengthening American democracy. Together, we’ve created a tool that will provide the clarity and visibility the democracy sector has been yearning for.

Why the U.S. Democracy Hub?

For years, organizations working in democracy have faced significant challenges in accessing clear, comprehensive data. Funders, nonprofits, researchers, and journalists alike have struggled to get the full picture of the sector’s size, financial sustainability, and the institutional philanthropy supporting it. This lack of transparency has made it difficult for funders to identify critical gaps, for nonprofits to enhance their strategies, and for everyone in the field to work together effectively.

That’s where the U.S. Democracy Hub comes in. It’s more than just a data platform—it’s a dynamic resource designed to grow and evolve with the sector. We’ve built the Hub to offer unparalleled visibility into the U.S. democracy field, empowering users with the data they need to make informed decisions and drive impact.

It's more than just a data platform–it's a dynamic resource designed to grow and evolve with the sector.

Who is the U.S. Democracy Hub for?

The U.S. Democracy Hub brings an unprecedented level of insight into the sector, providing:

  • Funders: The ability to understand the entire democracy field, discover new grantees, and identify gaps where their support can make a real difference.

  • Nonprofits: Access to reliable data that helps them refine their strategies, improve their fundraising, and increase their overall impact.

  • Researchers and Journalists: A platform for high-level insights into the sector, helping them ground their work in accurate, actionable data.

The Hub categorizes over 4,200 nonprofits into nine sub-ecosystems, including key areas like Voting Rights, Good Governance, and Counter Authoritarianism, among others. This clear taxonomy, developed by DFN, helps simplify the complexity of the sector and provides users with a big-picture view they’ve never had before.

Together, we’ve created a platform that doesn’t just fill the gap left by Candid’s retired Foundation Funding for U.S. Democracy website—it surpasses it by incorporating a wealth of new data and providing a resource that will remain free for everyone who needs it.

What This Means for the Democracy Sector

The U.S. Democracy Hub is launching at a critical moment in time. With the challenges democracy faces today, the need for greater collaboration, transparency, and data-driven decision-making has never been more urgent. This platform is designed to address these needs, offering funders and nonprofits alike a tool that can enhance their work, deepen their understanding of the sector, and ultimately help strengthen democracy in the U.S.

Celebrate this launch with us by joining one of our launch webinars. On Thursday, we will be hosting a webinar for funders, and October 1, we will be hosting a webinar for nonprofits. During these sessions, we will be showcasing the Hub and discussing the use cases for each audience. We will also be joined by a panel of industry experts who will be sharing their opinions on how they believe the U.S. Democracy Hub will transform the sector. Don’t forget to sign up!
